We keep this simple. We only ask for what we need to look after your car, we do not sell your details to anyone, and you can ask us to delete them.

Who we are

This website is run by West's Garage (Newmarket) Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 01960547. Our registered office and workshop is 11 Church Street, Exning, Newmarket, England, CB8 7EH.

We are the data controller for the information described on this page. That means we decide what is collected and what happens to it. If you want to talk to us about any of it, ring the garage on 01638 578 348 or use the contact details on our contact page.

What we collect

We collect information in three ways.

  • When you contact us. If you fill in the enquiry form, ring us or send an email, we collect your name, your contact details, and whatever you tell us about your vehicle and what it needs.
  • When you bring a vehicle in. We keep a record of the work carried out, your vehicle registration and service history, so we can look after it properly next time and meet the record keeping rules that apply to MOT testing.
  • When you browse this site, if you agree to it. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful. This only runs if you accept it when the cookie banner appears. If you decline, nothing is collected. Our cookie policy explains this in full.

Why we are allowed to use it

Under UK data protection law we have to have a reason. Ours are:

  • To do what you asked. If you ask us to book your car in or quote for work, we need your details to do it.
  • Our legitimate interests. Keeping sensible records of work carried out so we can advise you properly and stand behind what we have done.
  • Legal duties. MOT testing and tax records both carry retention rules we have to follow.
  • Your consent. Website analytics only, and only if you accept. You can change your mind at any time.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information and we do not pass it to anyone for marketing. We share it only where we have to in order to run the garage. That means the DVSA for MOT records, our accountants, HMRC, and the suppliers who host this website and handle our email. Those suppliers act on our instructions and cannot use your details for their own ends.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not turn into work are cleared out once they are plainly no longer needed. Records of work carried out, and the paperwork behind them, are kept for as long as tax and MOT rules require, which is normally six years.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete it, where we are not required to keep it;
  • stop using it for a particular purpose;
  • hand it over in a portable form.

Just ask, and there is no charge. We will respond within one month. If you are not happy with how we have handled it you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.

Keeping it safe

This site is served over a secure connection, and access to our records is limited to the people who need it to do their job.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and change the date at the top.
